Special Offerings to Haiti

In the past weeks we have seen some gruesome scenes of pain and devastation in Haiti caused by a major earth quake. The impact of the quake on the infrastructure has been enormous and an estimated 200,000 people have lost their lives.

It’s in this light that Bread of Life Church International (BLCI) in conjunction with Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) collected offerings for Haiti on Sunday 7th and 14th February 2010.

Many countries and international organisations have responded to the situation with various forms of aid including financial assistance, rescue operations, medical facilities, shelter, food and water.

In response, the Evangelical fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Board, chaired by Bishop Joe Imakando met and decided to be part of this great work by tasking the Development Committee chaired by Bishop Joshua Banda of Northmead Assembly of God to spearhead the response by mobilising financial aid from member churches, organisations and a cross section of Zambian societies including corporate business houses. These funds will be channeled through World Vision who are already on the ground in Haiti.

These finances will go towards the purchase and distribution of tents and domestic gas stoves. In addition, EFZ intends to send two teams of medical k in Haiti on short term basis to help with medical support provide psycho-social counselling and care support as part of the intervention package to Haiti.
This operation shall be channelled through World vision that is already on the ground.

The operation is targeting 100 households in Jacmel, capital of South Eastern region. The port city of jacmel has a population of 40,000 with 70% of its infrastructure devastated by the quake many in this town are in dire need of help as most of the relief has been targeted towards the capital city Port au prince. As we stand with the people of Haiti in prayer, it is vital that our faith is also applied in action.

James 2:18, ‘But someone will say, you have faith; I have deeds. Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.’

Your Decision Today

Evaluation is a revealing process. We evaluate ourselves in many ways. We balance our checkbooks to make sure our finances are in order. We look at ourselves in a mirror to see whether our clothes  are looking right. We need to evaluate our spiritual lives as well.
